History

Printing ink and paints factory "'t Anker" in Steenwijk, in the province of Overijssel, was established in 1896 by the Aberson family and spent many years specialising in the production of printing ink, paints, cellulose paints, chloro-rubber paints and 2-component paints. The family business established a fine reputation for consistent and durable quality. Some of the major customers included government departments and the AKU. Later, the business was sold to the Lampe family in Steenwijk.

In 1946 Adriaan Stuy started a sales office at the Molenwal in Gorredijk (Friesland), under the name A. Stuy - Paint and Snowcem dealer. The business later moved to the Hoofdstraat in Gorredijk. In 1962 a decision was made to build new business premises at the Hoofdstraat and the name of the company was changed to Stuy Verven which, in addition to wholesale activities, also started to specialise in mixing and colouring semi-finished products into ready-to-use products. This resulted in Stuy Verven becoming involved in many projects, with an ever increasing turnover to boot. Further expansion meant that the premises on the Hoofdstraat also became too small, partly because a decision was made to expand production activities. In 1974 the current premises in Terwispel were acquired and drastically renovated, with the company being able to move in and start production activities in 1976.

Stuy and Anker: United knowledge in paint and durable protection
In 1978 printing ink and paints factory "'t Anker" was taken over by Stuy Verven in a bid to unite the wide-ranging professional knowledge – although the companies would continue to produce separately in Terwispel and Steenwijk – and grow towards better centralisation. In 1982, after witnessing continuous growth in market share, a decision was made to draw up new plans to modernise the existing company in Terwispel into a production location and to continue under the name of Anker Stuy Verven. Various further expansions later, this is still the company’s current location. In the Eighties, the two sons of Adriaan Stuy joined the blossoming family business, and their efforts and flexibility helped to guarantee continuity and growth.
